Sales orders

The customer accepts the offer for 20 books but needs only 12 today. The order records all 20; the first delivery records 12. The remaining commitment stays visible until it is fulfilled or handled through the authorized workflow.

Create and submit the order

  1. From an eligible quotation choose Create order, or open Selling > Sales orders to prepare a new sales order.
  2. Review the source and customer, posting and delivery dates, lines, quantities, prices and income accounts.
  3. Save a draft for review or submit the order when authorized.
  4. Open the order and inspect its status and remaining quantities before creating downstream documents.
Sales orders track customer commitments independently from invoice settlement.

Deliver and bill from the order

A partially fulfilled order is not the same as a partially paid invoice. Payment settlement belongs to Receivables. A fully delivered order can still be waiting to bill.

  1. Choose Create delivery for an eligible submitted order. Enter only the quantity actually being delivered.
  2. Use Create invoice when the remaining billable quantity should be charged. Review the generated draft in Invoicing before submitting it.
  3. After each step, return to the order and check fulfillment and billing progress.

Pause an order

Use Hold with a reason when fulfillment and billing must pause. Use Resume once the issue is resolved and authorized. Do not create a parallel order to work around the hold.

Cancellation and reversal actions depend on existing downstream records. Retain the original order and resolve its linked documents through the available governed actions.
