Variants and attributes

A uniform shirt is sold in Small, Medium and Large. Each size needs its own identifiable item and stock balance. A template provides the shared settings; an attribute defines the allowed size values.

Create a template and attributes

  1. In Products > Items, prepare the shared item and enable Variant template.
  2. Open Products > Variants > Attributes and choose New attribute.
  3. Enter a name such as Size, choose the value type, and enter comma-separated values such as Small, Medium, Large. Save the attribute.
Attributes define the choices used when creating concrete variants.

Create a variant

  1. Open the Variants tab and select New variant.
  2. Choose the template, enter the variant name and optional code, then choose the attribute values.
  3. Add the variant barcode if used and create the variant.
  4. Repeat for other required combinations, checking the list before creating a duplicate.

Use the concrete item

The variant inherits stock controls from its template. Receive, price and sell the specific variant rather than the template. A size Small stock balance must not be used to explain a sale of size Large.

If New variant is disabled, check that an eligible template and attributes exist and that your role can manage products.
